Cooking home-made ingredients that taste better or even slightly similar to ready-made ingredients is a huge task for some. Well, I believe most of the heads nodding a ‘yes’ to this, and if it’s so then cheer up because we are here at your rescue!

Today we’ll help you make the best lobster in Kaikoura, that too USING THE HERBS “YOU” CHOOSE. So let’s dive in and choose your herb flavor first before all.

For reference flavor, hit the highlighted link above and know it for yourself.

List of Herbs that go the Best with Butter and obviously with Lobster!

1)       Rosemary: Rosemary is one of the most aromatic herbs of all. It is an earthy herb with a sharp, piney, and diverse flavor that can add an instant classic touch to any meat dish and Lobster.

2)      Thyme: With a fresh, classic, and subtle flavor this is a flexible seasoning herb option that gradually enhances the flavors of any dish to its best.

3)      Lemongrass: It is known to provide tangy, bitter flavor to dishes, so when it comes to preparing Asian-style minty & fresh Lobster dishes then lemongrass serves as the best herb.

4)      Cayenne Pepper: The name itself suggests its flavor i.e. spicy. So if you are looking to contrast the sweetness of lobster with something spicy then this the herb you must nudge into.

5)      Chives: The flavor of chives is similar to that of onion, which has a mild yet pungent but zingy creamy taste when added to sauces or marinades. Also, it is best to compliment pain butter.

So now that you might have chosen a preferred herb to make your Home-Made flavored butter with, then let’s get started with the main process—Cooking Lobster in Herb Butter, now.

Ingredients required:

1)       4 Lobster tails

2)      ¾ cups Butter (Salted/Unsalted)

3)      Any Herbs of your choice (Can be more than one)

[Suggested taking lesser stems of strong herbs like Rosemary, Thyme, Basil, and etc]

4)      3 to 4 Garlic cloves

5)      Salt as per your taste

6)      Pepper as per your taste or ½ tsp

7)      1 minced Shallot (Optional)

Directions for cooking:

For lobster:

Take lobster tails and slice them from the center down leaving the base/fin part intact. Cut down the upper shell in a way to loosen the meat from the interior. After all the cuts are made, lift the inner meat over the shell while leaving it attached to the tail.

For Herb Butter:

Heat some butter in a pan, it could be any salted or unsalted butter, just make sure if you are using unsalted butter then add a little more of the salt in the end and otherwise. Let the butter melt on medium heat, and then gradually add chopped or minced garlic or shallots (optional) and sauté until fragrant.

Once all ingredients turn translucent, transfer them into a bowl and add finely chopped herbs of your choice and mix well. Leave it aside for 15-20 minutes at room temperature.

 The final step:

Prepare a butter paper onto a plain or grill rack and place the prepared lobster on it. Now, brush the herb butter perfectly on the lobster and grill over medium heat for about 15 to 18 minutes. Also, cover the pan with a lid to faster the cooking process.

You can also cook the lobster in a microwave oven at 350°F over the same period of time.
